Thought for the Day

It is through dying to concern for self that we are born to new life with God and others; in such dying and rebirth, we find that life is given so we can give it to others; and in such giving away of what has been given to us, we find there is an infinite supply of meaning, joy and fulfillment added to our life. (Glenn Olds, adapted)

God's Living Word

Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms. (1 Peter 4:8-10, NIV)

It is interesting to watch children play.  They run around exploring, trying things out, looking for what will bring them joy and contentment.  As they begin interacting with other children they are very possessive, wanting everything for themselves.  They will take, horde, grab and selfishly want everything for themselves.  Sadly, some never learn the real lesson of life that true joy and contentment is not found in living for ourselves, rather it is discovered in the gift of sharing with others.

If you watch carefully you will discover that the happiest children, the most content, the most comfortable with themselves are the ones who have learned to share.

How much like children many adults are today.  So many of us have not yet learned the lesson of sharing, of giving to others the way Jesus has given to us.  Leon Tucker once shared the following prayer, "Lord, lay some soul upon my heart, and love that soul thro' me; and may I earnestly do my part to win that soul to Thee."

May we remember the people with whom we interact today - family members, the person behind the counter at the coffee shop, neighbors, the jogger passing on the street, those people with whom we struggle - all are people for whom Christ died. They are "our people," the ones we should live for and bring to Jesus.

Let's learn to look at others through the eyes of Jesus.  Let's learn to share the Great News that has been given to us, especially to those people God brings into our lives.  The Holy Spirit will arrange today for you to interact with someone who needs to hear the message of Jesus.  May we purpose right now to give away His mercy and love so that we might experience again the source of real joy and contentment as we discover our real purpose in life.

He is Risen!  He is Risen indeed!

God's richest blessings on your day.

 Be There!
