FAQ How to Start a Small Group
Who do I talk to about starting a small group? You can go to the Minister of Discipleship Ministries directly or just talk to one of the small group leaders to find out more about what is involved with starting a group here at Grace. To Contact the Minister of Discipleship Ministries AJ Brumfield, call (760)745-0831 ext. 101 or you can e-mail him at abrumfield@gracelcms.net.
Who can start a small group? Anyone can start a group. If you have a passion to share God’s love revealed to us through His word and fellowship with other believers then you can start a small group! Most of our groups are focused on a commonality from age to hobbies. We also have groups that are a diverse combination of people. Whatever God lies on your heart we can make happen!
Do I have to be a full fledged member to start a group? It is preferred that all of our group leaders go through the new membership class at some point previous to starting a group. However, if you would like to start a group before that you can contact the Minister of Discipleship Ministries and arrange a meeting to discuss ways that you could begin the ministry that God is calling you to!
How do I find resources to use for my group? There is a small group resource library located in the fireside room with a growing library of books, DVDs, workbooks and other resources you can use to guide your group. If you can not find what you are looking for there are other avenues like Christina book stores, internet sites and you can even write your own!
How do I find the people to join my group? The easiest place to find your group is within the circles you already have. Friends, neighbors and coworkers can make up your group. Also the person who sit in front of, behind or next to in church could be in your group. Just start asking people! We also have some advertising available in the bulletin on the screen before and after services and even in service announcements.
How big does a small group need to be to be considered a small group? God says that wherever two or three are gathered there He will be. Two people are considered a group at Grace!
Do I have to have a bible study every week in my group? No. While God should be the center of every group the group does not have to exist to study His word. We have many interest groups that provide a Christian environment for people to gather and participate in their hobbies or interests.
Do I have to have the group in my home? No. We have some space available for you to use on campus here. Of course the space is limited and depends on other activities going on at the time. You could also recruit a “Host”. This is someone who just provides the place to meet.
Where do I go from here? First of all be in prayer! God will guide all steps of your ministry. Second thing to do is contact the Minister of Discipleship Ministries to obtain a Leadership handbook. You will also receive more information on other resources, expectations and support available to you.
